You need a license to drive a car. It’s too bad you don’t need some kind of license or IQ test to travel the Information Highway. Case in point: this posting from some incredibly naïve and ignorant Lyme nut. He writes:
Dr. Fry is doing some exciting work on a new biofilm-forming protozoan previously referred to as FL1953 and only recently renamed to Protomyxzoa rheumatica, a highly immune-suppressive microorganism. He refers to it as the premier pathogen.
Trouble is there’s no such bug. Check PubMed. The only place it seems to exist is on the web sites and blogs of various people who think they have Lyme disease and numerous other mysterious pathogens.
Apparently, Stephen Fry of Fry Labs in Arizona discovered this mysterious creature. According to the Lab’s website, Fry is “the Founder, Director, and Principal Investigator of our laboratory, Stephen E. Fry, M.S., M.D., is an active General Practitioner in Scottsdale. A large portion of Dr. Fry's patients include those who suffer from chornic fatigue, fibromyalgia, lyme disease, and other complicated autoimmune diseases. Dr. Fry is a member of I.L.A.D.S…..” Enough said.
Now about this mysterious “premier pathogen.” Another one of these gullible online Lyme nuts provided the following info about Fry’s exciting discovery:
I recently had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Dr. Stephen Fry MD as part of Dr. Klinghardt's recent "Beyond Lyme" conference. I'm still working on my notes from that event and will post them soon. In the meantime, I just listened to a radio interview from Fry…. Some of the key points from the radio interview:
- FL1953 is a new, unique protozoan organism that is found in people with CFS, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
- People with Morgellon's also have evidence of the organism. In Morgellon's, Dr. Fry talked about this new protozoan possibly suppressing the immune system such that a fungal/mycelial condition then develops leading to the symptoms of Morgellons.
- Dr. Fry discussed the use of Tetracyclines, Zithromax, Plaquenil and other options, but more interesting were his other recommendations. One of the future projects his lab is working on is to complete sensitivity testing of various therapies for this new protozoan.
- He shared that diet is very important. The protozoan loves lipids (fats) and that lipid restriction via low-fat diets has been a very powerful tool. Lipids and fatty acids also play a role in the formation of biofilms which seem to collapse with lipid restriction.
- He discussed the benefits of a whole food, plant-based diet full of bioflavanoids; which themselves act as an antibiotic.
- He suggested that many people with chronic illness may struggle with wheat not due to the gluten content but due to the high arginine which the FL1953 protozoan thrives on.
Many of these concepts are still emerging, but it appears that Dr. Fry's protozoan may be an important piece of the puzzle. I recently had blood drawn to test for this organism and biofilms with Dr. Fry's lab and will post a blog about my results on my site when they are available.
Please post the bill too, along with your IQ or the name of your court-appointed guardian.
As with so much of quackery, it’s hard to tell whether Fry is just another “lone, independent investigator” who thinks he’s discovered something new and marvelous while toiling away in his basement, or another online con artist looking to bilk a few dollars out of some gullible and desperate patient wannabes. I never know quite which one to hope for—the kook or the crook—but in either case the state medical board needs to pay a visit to Fry Labs.

See link for some reviews of this Fry guy (note the unique spelling of voila) With all the time these lyme nuts spend on the internet, wouldn't you think they would check these quacks out first? They ALL have at least one strange story posted. David Younger has many, even the self-appointed father of Lyme, Charles Ray Jones, had a parent of a patient post a complaint that he was incoherent and doddering...http://www.yelp.com/biz/stephen-fry-md-scottsdale
ReplyDeleteIt is a never-ending treatment protocol. Dr. Fry has announced that he has a 3-hour intravenous protocol that will destroy Bb biofilms, thus allowing his IV antibiotic treatments to kill any infection.
ReplyDeletePublic Health Alert reports about one Fry patient, "After three weeks of the combination therapy, this woman bounced into the clinic with renewed enthusiasm, reclaiming herself as the vibrant person she was before becoming so ill!"
In contrast, the October 2009 Townsend Letter reports that Dr. Fry stated "Biofilm colonies are complex, difficult to treat. We do not have biofilm drugs yet today."
If there are no biofilm drugs, then why has he been selling people long-term intravenous biofilm-busting treatments for thousands of dollars?
If all it takes is a 3-hour IV protocol, why aren't more patients "bouncing" out of these LLMD clinics with the same vibrance and renewed enthusiasm?
WHY aren't these people being investigated?
Broad St. Pump, my friend is a patient of Dr. Fry's and since she has been buying and taking his medicines, she has become kind of manic, and made some serious and potentially bad life decisions. I've been researching Fry on the internet and can't find much, and I don't know what is in these medicines if in fact they are medicines. I am not in the science or medicine field; I don't know if you are. If you know, could you tell me what kinds of steps I can take to find out more about this person? How do I find out if he is a quack or if the medical establishment has evaluated him? Thank you! J
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't there more resources for people investigating "chronic lyme"and the doctors who promote therapies? Why can't I go online and get feedback from the FDA on these practitioners? They have been around for quite awhile. If they are charlatans, then why are they allowed to operate with impunity?
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, it's easy to brand people as stupid who fall for quacks. But isn't it understandable that people resort to this stuff when they feel horrible and no doctor has been able to diagnose the cause of debilitating symptoms? I will tell you that I DO feel scared taking runs of powerful antibiotics, but I can't just sit here passively and feel crappy. I don't know if the periodic reactions I have (flu symptoms, headache, severe body cramps and nausea) are a reaction to the antibiotic or a reaction to the so-called toxins that the drugs are supposed to be killing.
I am a skeptic and suspect I'm being taken for a ride. Am I helping create super-bugs with these therapies? Am I damaging my body? There must be other educated people out there who aren't lyme loyalists and genuinely want to know who is telling the truth about what. I'm taking a risk, and it might be a stupid risk, but I'm not stupid. If there is no biofilm or "Herxing" or any of that stuff, why are these doctors allowed to sell those ideas? If they are quacks, they should be put out of business. Don't leave it to people who are suffering to figure all this stuff out.
So frustrated...
